Insurance FAQs
Do I need a medical questionnaire to join?
Existing members who join by April 2, 2025 don’t need to complete a medical questionnaire. New PGA of Canada members have 60 days from the start of their membership to join without a medical questionnaire. If joining after the 60 days, a simplified medical questionnaire is needed.
Do I need to maintain my PGA of Canada membership to stay in the insurance plan?
Yes, access to the comprehensive group insurance program is a benefit of PGA of Canada membership. You must maintain your PGA of Canada membership to stay in the plan.
Who is eligible in my household?
Spouse
Your spouse or partner doesn’t need to be a member to be eligible for coverage. This includes a spouse through legal marriage or a partner who has lived with you for at least the last 12 months.
Dependent children
Your dependent children don’t need to be members to be covered. Coverage is available for:
- Unmarried children under 21 who aren’t employed full-time
- Unmarried children under 30 who are enrolled as a full-time student at a post-secondary institution and who are dependent on you for support
- Children who are disabled, unmarried and who depend on you for financial support
Who manages and provides service for the Entente Group Insurance Program?
Entente Group Insurance plans — extended health care, dental, and hospital and convalescent care — are owned and operated on a non-profit basis by RTOERO. The volunteer-led board of directors and benefits committee manage the plan design and premiums with the commitment to put plan members first.
Service to members is provided by:
- Johnson Inc. as the claims and service administrator — a proud partner of RTOERO for more than 30 years
- Canadian Premier Life Insurance Company, a Securian Financial Company, as the underwriter of the Entente plans
- Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance Company of Canada, as the underwriter of travel coverage included in the extended health care plan, and the available supplemental travel plan to top up for additional days
